For those of you who don't know what Su Doku is, it is a simple and elegant puzzle comprising of a 9x9 grid of squares. This 9x9 grid is further divided into boxes with 3x3 squares. Some of the squares will have numbers between 1 and 9 in them. Your task is to fill up the blank squares such that each row, each column and each 3x3 box will have all the numbers from 1 to 9. You don't require any mathematical skills to solve the puzzles; only a sharp analytical mind is needed

It is a game that is now becoming extremely popular in Europe, especially in the UK.

A google search will reveal innumerable sites out there dedicated to Su Doku.

I have developed an Excel based all in one Su Doku puzzle generator cum solver cum helper application. You are welcome to download it from the link given at the beginning of the page

Requirements

1. To save bandwidth, I have zipped up the file. Therefore you need Winzip or a suitable zip extraction utility to unzip the file.
2. Of course, you will need Micrsoft Excel in your computer. I developed this in Excel 2000. I have tested it on Excel 97 and it works fine on both. I believe it should work on later versions of Excel; however, I am not sure if it works on earlier versions.
3. You must enable macros in Excel. While opening the Sudoku application, Excel will ask you whether to enable or disable the macros. Click on "Enable Macros". If Excel does not ask you whether to enable macros and automatically disables it on opening the file, it means your macro security setting is set on "High". For changing your security setting, do the following:

   a. From the Excel Menu, select "Tools >> Macro >> Security",
   b. Under the "Security Level" tab of the dialog box, select "Medium"
   c. Click on "OK",
   d. Close the file, and then open it again. In the "Enable Macros" dialog box that pops up, click on the button marked "Enable Macros".
